The Wolves are Cape Town based surfers with strong connections to the ocean and the kreef gods of South Africa’s diabolical west coast. They have been building a buzz in South Africa since they started touring with their upbeat and original sound.
The Wolves are known for drawing inspiration from West Coast camping trips, sleeping in their surfboard bags nourished by icy surf, frosted quarts and acoustic instruments. Music, surfing and camping seem to go hand in hand. Starting from an acoustic base with a djembe, the Wolves incorporate a diffusion of sounds from different genres into the songs they create. This gives the Wolves an edge, as they can perform stripped down acoustic shows in intimate venues, with the upbeat energy of the full band better suited to bigger shows & festival performances. The Wolves are happy to explore Crosby Stills and Nash harmonies, mixed with punk, reggae, rock n’ roll and more recently banjo-driven bluegrass after Pete picked up a 5 string banjo.
Excited as they are with the emerging sounds, the Wolves never anticipated the enthusiasm which their audiences have found for their music after releasing their debut EP, “Hold the Wheel”, followed by singles “The City” and ”Uncle Tin”.
“I can’t get over this band”, comments Mike Smith, editor of LMG music magazine / website, “Nobody in South Africa is doing this kind of music. Local promoter and manager of the Brass Bell agrees, “the Wolves are masquerading as a contemporary folk-rock band, but their approach to blend genres together allows them to create an original sound, enhanced by the raw kinetic energy of the blazin’ banjo”.
During the pandemic, the Wolves cut their first full length 11-track record “DON’T FORGET TO HOWL” capturing the live energy of the band, songs are currently being released on spotify.

“I can’t get over this band”, comments Mike Smith, editor of LMG music magazine / website, “Nobody in South Africa is doing this kind of music. Their songs are fresh and familiar at the same time, with absolutely addictive melodies”. Local promoter and manager of the Brass Bell restaurant in Kalk Bay agrees, “the West Coast Wolves show is not a subtle performance… The Wolves are masquerading as a contemporary folk band, but in reality the full ensemble and soaring crescendo of the Wolves live set is enough to get the entire place up and on their feet!”
